St Cuthberts Anglican Church, where Strangers become Family

Welcome to St Cuthbert's.

Who are we? We are the first Anglican Church in NSW if you're coming down the coast from Queensland and, you guessed it, the last Anglican Church before you enter Queensland. We are a part of the Diocese of Grafton (that's where our Bishop lives) and part of the Anglican Church of Australia. More importantly, we are a fellowship of Jesus' followers in the Tweed Heads area. We are growing to be the kind of Church that attracted people to join in the early years of the Church - Tertullian (an early Church Bishop) said that the attracting quality was love. He reported that the non-Christians at the time said - "see how these Christians love one another".

A little history

The Anglican Church was the first in the area dating back to the late 1800's. The Anglican community has gathered for fellowship and worship on the current site since 1973. There were two prior church locations around Tweed Heads. The name of Cuthbert was given to the church community and building in honour of St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne who lived in the far north of England about 1,300 years ago. Cuthbert's name was chosen because the name of our town and river, Tweed, is synonymous with the area where Cuthbert's life and ministry occurred in England. During the 1970's and 80's the parish expanded rapidly and extended its ministry through the establishment and operation of Lindisfarne Anglican School and St Cuthbert's Retirement Living Complexes (three retirement villages). These are now independent Anglican ministry units.

Worship

We are conscious of the need to honour God in our formal worship but just as importantly, in the worship of our daily lives. Worship is the offering of our lives in the loving service of God. We seek to express beauty and joy in our worship in many ways.
